Val Di Sole

Val Di Sole

Italy

Sunday 12 December 2021

For the second newcomer on the agenda of the UCI Cyclo-cross World Cup, we travelled down to a snow white Val di Sole in Italy on 12 December. Wout van Aert and Fem van Empel showed themselves there as the snow king and queen of the round.

Women Elite

In Italy 19-year old Fem van Empel was able to put her hands in the air in Val di Sole after an exciting race in the lead. When she put her pursuers at a few seconds in the first lap, things were looking good for the young Dutch rider. Marianne Vos, who was forced to chase after mechanical problems, let the tension rise with a "fox and mouse" game in the 9th round of the UCI Cyclo-cross World Cup. Read more?

Men Elite

On a snow white course, Michael Vanthourenhout quickly took the lead. Towards the end of lap 1, Eli Iserbyt and Wout van Aert were able to catch up with the leader. It looked like the elite group would stay together for a large part of the race, but that was clearly not what Van Aert had in mind. On the climb in the second lap, he accelerated, leaving the others behind. He rode solo to victory a few laps later. Curious to find out how the race went?
